At the Nuit Blanche 1th of October 2016 in Brussels, artists, writers and musicians tell and show their everyday-life in Gaza (a)live – live streaming from Gaza.

Gaza is known as the largest open prison in the world. There are no airports, open borders or seaport, no ways to get in or out.

During this night you can meet and talk to Mohammed al Habbash, an oud player, May Murad, a visual artist, Wesam Moussa, a filmmaker and others at the live streaming at Gaza (a) live. They all have experienced how closed borders has challenged them in reaching out beyond Gaza. Living in Gaza under siege and as third generation refugee, they live through days of hope and despair trying to make some space for artistic expression and freedom.

For one evening you can follow these artists and talk directly to them during the streaming.

Threads Art Project - thousands of birds between us,

Threads Art Project is a crosscultural art project that has involved more than 600 persons till now in Palestine, Norway, India, Indonesia and other places. It's been exhibited in Salhus Trikotasjemuseum and Galleri N. Bergslien in Norway. It is a project in cooperation between Marie Skeie, Norway and Motaz al Habbash, Palestine. We have started the project in Gaza where we have involved different groups of people to embroider a bird and write a message. The goal is to have more than thousand messages and birds made around in the world.

 FRI SOM FUGLEN  

Høsten 2013 startet Marie og Motaz kunstprosjektet ”Threads Art Project” på Gazastripen. Gjennom prosjektet inviterte de folk til å brodere en fugl med en beskjed til omverdenen. Bakgrunnen for dette prosjektet var å belyse situasjonen til menneskene som er fanget av blokaden i Gaza. Broderiet ble her en symbolsk handling som skapte rom for en krysskulturell dialog mellom mennesker fra ulike land.

 - I alle kunstprosjektene våre jobber vi sammen med andre mennesker, og disse menneskene og deres arbeid blir en del av kunsten. Vi har begge vært opptatt av ønske om å hjelpe andre, men det er ikke alltid det er mulig å gi hjelpen som trengs; da kan vi gjennom kunst gi et kreativt rom for dialog og forståelse.

Kunstprosjektet startet opp på Gazastripen, men har siden inkludert deltakere fra Norge, India og Indonesia. ”Threads Art Project” er et forsøk på å skape hverdag i en virkelighet preget av krig og blokade. Med enkle ressurser som nål og tråd har deltakerne fått kraft og motivasjon til å overskride barrierene skapt av tid, rom og kultur. 

- For meg var det viktig å lage et rom for tanker som handler om noe annet enn krig og vansker. Kunst kan ha en evne til å overskride grenser, identitet og kommunikasjon; forklarer Marie og påpeker at kunst i all sin enkelthet handler om å være sammen med andre mennesker.
